Where it all began
We opened our first store in Kitchener, Ontario in 1980. Our goal? To offer restaurant-quality foods, great value, and one-of-a-kind service to customers. Back then, we were called M&M Meat Shops and our product line-up showcased top quality, flash-frozen, exclusive products not available in any other food retailer. Although our name has changed, our goal remains the same.
Growing through the years
Throughout the 1990's and 2000's, Canadians welcomed us into their homes and communities and, with the help of our Franchise Partners, we opened stores in towns and cities across Canada, from coast to coast. We became a trusted brand for mealtime and entertaining, special occasions and everyday dinners. We partnered with local and national charities and organizations, sharing our dedication to food and service, as a proud Canadian brand. And in doing so, we were honoured to achieve many franchising, community, marketing, and food awards along the way.
Changing to bring you more
In 2016, with new ownership came a full and exciting revamp of the brand. We introduced a brand new, fresh and inviting look in our stores by renovating and creating an open concept shopping environment, with new, updated, colour-coded packaging to help shoppers navigate our freezers, as well as convenient Pantry Essentials and Kitchen Essentials products to make preparing and serving food all the more convenient.
Our product line-up had also evolved from restaurant-quality meats to a large array of quality food choices from nearly every food category, built with quality and designed to suit different consumer tastes and dietary needs. To convey our diverse assortment to a new generation of customers, we changed our name from M&M Meat Shops to M&M Food Market. We also launched our Real Food Promise to ensure that all our products contain absolutely no artificial colours, flavours, or sweeteners. And, we made a commitment to offering sustainable seafood in our stores.
M&M Food Market today
In 2020, we celebrated our 40th anniversary as a proud Canadian company. We also experienced one of the most difficult periods in Canadian history, as the pandemic took hold and brought new challenges for our business and Canadians everywhere. In order to continue to serve our customers, we introduced extensive safety measures in our stores, and we also began offering curbside pickup and improved our website to help make online ordering easier.
To support our M&M Food Market communities, we donated PPE, gift cards and sparked a new partnership with BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada), all while continuing to bring you new tastes and meal solutions to help you and your family make real food for real life.
And, M&M Food Market tomorrow
New ideas. New products. New customers. New stores. New ways to serve communities across Canada. This is how it all began and it’s what drives us forward for the next 40 years.
